I walk the same loop most nights after midnight, six blocks, has been six blocks since spring, and I dont walk it because I expect to find something specific, I walk it because a door that stays the same for six months and then doesnt is the only kind of data I trust anymore. everything else you can argue with me about. a door is a door, it was closed or it wasnt. I learned that the slow way with the spacing on the sixty two, measured that gap once and thought once was enough and it wasnt, you have to go back, the record isnt a record until its been checked against itself at least twice, same as I wrote down to the inch on the fence spacing and then went back anyway. now I check the doors on the loop the same way. every night. same order. same side of the street first.

this building is stop four. loading side, north wall, no windows at street level, which by itself means nothing, plenty of buildings dont put windows where trucks back in. what it used to be I dont fully know, theres a sign bolted over an older sign out front and I havent gone around to read what the old one said underneath yet, thats for another night, thats not this. what I know is the loading door on stop four has started doing something it didnt do all spring, staying propped, and a propped door on a route I walk every night at the same pace is not the kind of thing I get to call a coincidence just because calling it that would be easier on everyone including me. went in eventually, obviously, and what was actually back there is its own count, logged separate from the door itself.
