The Glare Has A Schedule
23:58 — cam 592, SBD-15 NB PM 25.3, 8/4 20:44:05, glare wall, 4th night
Camera five ninety two again. I keep the number because the number is the only part of this that hasn't changed since August, the pole, the postmile, the little grey box aimed south toward Oak Hill. Tonight at 20:44 it did the thing again, the wall of light eating the whole center of the frame so the truck behind it is just a shape, a rectangle of dark holding its place while everything around it goes white. Two trucks, maybe, I can't tell anymore and I've looked at this frame more times than I've looked at most people's faces this year. I count what I can see and what I can see is not much, which some of you will say is the point, headlights are bright, that is what headlights DO, and I am tired of explaining why that does not hold up here. A headlight blinds the driver coming toward it. It does not sit centered on a public traffic camera three hundred feet up a hillside for six, seven seconds, at almost exactly the same minute, four nights running. I have the screenshots. The mile marker pages are still up if anyone wants to check my counting instead of my sanity, which is what people do instead of checking, always, first the sanity, then maybe, if they're bored, the actual claim.
Ridge behind the glare is the same shape as the ridge behind the frame I keep going back to on the clock thread, different mountain, same low black cut, like something flat took a saw to it. my dad used to say the ridge behind our old house looked chewed. anyway.
this is the fourth time in nine days. or ten, the dates page has the real count, im doing this from memory at whatever hour it actually is, and my memory is not the record, the record is the record, I keep saying that and nobody listens. someone is choosing when the light hits the lens. I dont care if that sentence gets me another email from the flare people, camera 592 is not a truck having a bad night, its a device on a schedule and the schedule isnt caltrans's.
