The Plate Never Makes It Into Frame
rear wheel and bumper, black truck, plate frame red, plate itself unreadable, shot sideways from behind the cans
Not the white one. I'll say that first because the last few times I've posted about a truck people in my own inbox assumed it was the same truck, and it isn't, this one's black, a badge on the tailgate I couldn't get all of, parked where the rental usually sits across from the mailbox. I got close enough to read the plate and then I didn't, because the shadow off the carport eats the bottom third of everything after about nine and I know that, I've known that since August, and I still went out there with just the phone instead of the flash because the flash is what gets you seen.
the wheel came out clean though. clean and huge and sideways because I was crouched behind my own trash cans and didnt think to rotate the phone before I took it, didnt think about anything except getting the angle where the bumper and the tail light and the badge all land in one frame so nobody can say later I only shot part of it. the plate frame is red, I can tell that much, red plastic frame around a plate I cannot read, and thats not new, thats happened with this exact amount of ambient light in this exact spot four separate times since march that I can point to, probably more I didnt bother documenting because at some point you stop photographing every single truck or youd never do anything else.
Trash day tomorrow.
theyve started parking closer to the house is the thing nobody wants to hear when I say it out loud. not threatening close. just closer than the street allows for, half a car length into what should be the neighbors space, like they know exactly how far the angle has to cheat before it reaches my window. my dad used to back his truck in so the tailgate faced the garage, every time, said it was so he could load faster. I never load anything faster. anyway.
Coincidence? no. I dont believe in coincidence and Ive said that on this site more times than Im going to go count right now, maybe eleven, maybe more, doesnt matter. what matters is the plate, which I still dont have, which Im going back out tomorrow night to get even though tomorrow is trash day and the cans wont be there to crouch behind. Ill have to find somewhere else. the neighbors hedge maybe, if its still-
